Write up for the York Muay Thai fighters in Calgary at H2H Retribution

Here are the official write ups for York Muay Thai's fighters performances in Calgary over the weekend!

"Ari Markle (Calgary, Canada) vs. Nic Du Preez (Toronto, Canada)

Calgarian Ari Markle battled with Toronto's Nic Du Preez. The fight started off quite close. Du Preez opened with some kicks but was to immediately pounce to vicious elbow attacks.
One did score and gave the Calgarian a cut above the right eye. Markle was to fight back but started to hesitate on pulling the trigger. Du Preez was almost always first off the line. By the third round, Markle seemed flat footed and was hesitating on attacking.
This encouraged Du Preez to pressure forward for a KO, but he just could not find it. Nic Du Preez won by unanimous decision. Du Preez was to win the Roy Lilley Trophy of the event for the Best Visiting Athlete."

"Mark MacKinnon (Calgary, Canada) vs. Brian Trinh (Toronto, Canada)

This bout opened with Thinh pressing forward and trying to land his right hand on the taller MacKinnon. A few landed which brought immediate respect from the Calgary athlete.
In rounds two and three, MacKinnon decided he did not like getting punched and he used his roundhouse kick to the body and use very well placed teep's to keep Trinh at bay.
Trinh fought back gamely but had a difficult time getting through the long kicks to score his right hand. A unanimous decision went to Mark MacKinnon."

Giorgio Petrosyan vs Khem Sitsongpeenong (video)

A big fight under It's Showtime Rules (similar to K-1)...no elbows, limited clinch and clinch knees.

Watch: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xclt7i_gevorg-petrosyan-vs-khem-sitsongpee_sport

pictures: http://www.itsshowtime.nl/fight/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=800&catid=211&Itemid=118

It's Showtime is a Dutch promotion. They hold some pretty amazing fights with some of Europe's best, and have started to bring in more big name Thai's such as Sudsakorn and Khem

Kem, as you know, is a top dog around the world in Muay Thai. As far as MT goes, he's the next big export from Thailand. This is his very first time fighting under K-1 style rules.

Giorgio needs little introduction. He is the recent K-1 MAX world Champion (2009), defeating Andy Souwer for the title. He's also defeated the likes of Naruepol (K1 rules) and drawn with Buakaw (Muay Thai rules).

Both these guys are pretty much at the highest points of their respective worlds in stand up fighting. They are both also known for being very strong and technical.

I'd love to see Giorgio fight full MT again, especially against Kem. I don't doubt his abilities at all, but it would be great to see him fighting against these top guys under their original rules.

Looking at these guys, neither of them could afford to slip up. They both strike so fast, so precise and so hard

This fight highlighted two things in my books: Giorgio has a lot more power in the left kick than I thought (just listen and watch...compare the kicks), and Kem has a really strong chin.

H2H Retribution in Calgary, March 27th

This is the event PCs Brian and Nic are scheduled to fight on. Also fighting from Toronto is Yvonne from Old School Muay Thai (downtown) who used to spar with us a couple years back

Some young Thais Clinching

Watch:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cx9QVw0RToI

Notice how relaxed they are...not using too much muscle
They keep a nice upright posture
They don't spin and move wildly; They are always set with their footwork and stay balanced before and after kneeing.

Jomthong Chuwattana (Fighter Profile)

57 kg (126 lbs) Featherweight titles:
Rajadamnern Stadium Champion 2x
WBC World Muay Thai Champion (2008 win over Anuwat)

Record as of 2009
200 fights. 167 wins. 30 Losses and 3 draws

Jomthong is a young and talented fighter from the Chuwattana camp in Thailand. Making his name by defeating the infamous Anuwat Kaewsamrit, Jomthong captured 2 of the most prestigious titles in MT.

Jomthong defeats Anuwat for the WBC world title

He is currently ranked 3rd in Thailand. He has stepped in the ring with the best of the best these days including: Saenchai Sor Kingstar, Kaew Fairtex, Petchboonchu FA Group, Sakkedao. Google any of the aforementioned fighters and you'll find they are all incredible. Jomthong has not always come out victorious against the likes of these guys, but he always gives a display of some of the best Muay Thai you'll see today.

Jomthong refers to himself as a technician. I like watching him for his precise and powerful strikes. He doesn't waste a lot of energy and digs right into his target.

Pajunsuk Lukprahbat vs Youness (video)

Another Pajunsuk fight, this time from Slamm!: Thailand vs the Netherlands from a ways back

I'm giving him a lot of respect...he's coming in as the shorter guy in most of the fights I'm seeing him in.

Pajunsuk doesn't look like he's off to a great start, but then picks it up and marches forward on Youness.

There's a controversial ending to this one I'm not going to comment on, mostly because I'm not sure what the right call would be. See Part 2 to find out.

Pajunsuk Lukprahbat vs Rayen Simson (video)

Watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqEBbYBD4mQ

Pajunsuk is a former Lumpinee champion at welterweight, when he took the title against Kaolan (who was the first Thai finalist in K-1 MAX before Buakaw).

He has grown and fought as heavy as 160 I believe. He's mixed it up with some other great Thais, like Namsaknoi, as well as fighting big foreigners such as Joeri Mes and some Sanshou fighters. Right now he's at that weight and point in his career where he mostly travels around and fights non Thais outside of Thailand.

I posted about Rayen before. He's fought some of the biggest names in Muay Thai during his time at the welter to middleweight, including: Yoddecha, the legendary Sakmongkol and much later on Lamsongkram.
