Saiyok Pumpanmuang

So I posted the Slamm fights the other day and no doubt those who watched took notice of Saiyok. He's been in the game for a long time and has fought quite a few times outside of Thailand...yet he's still one of the lesser known fighters.

He's currently the #1 Welterweight in the Thailand rankings (and national champion), and he's about #3 or 4 in both Raja and Lumpini...He's now the WMC champion

Saiyok is definitely up there. If you watch him, he doesn't have that kind of "pretty" aesthetic to his technique that Buakaw does, but when you see his strikes land it looks absolutely horrifying. He really punishes his opponent for not blocking or evading.

I'd personally love to see Buakaw and him go at it in full Muaythai rules.

Staring Down the Eyes of a Tiger

Mosab Amrani isn't the #1 Muay Thai fighter in the world. However, he's proven that he can get in there, stand with the best, and even take sweet victory when few people believe can.

Last year, Mosab stood and banged with Anuwat Kaewsamrit. If you don't know Anuwat by now, stop reading and go youtube him. He's not called the "Iron Hands of Siam" for nothing. Mosab came out victorious in one huge upset.

This weekend at Slamm!, Mosab is getting ready to throw down with Bovy Sor Udomson...one of the most vicious fighters on the circuit. Mosab himself says he doesn't believe Bovy has a soul.

Check out what this man, who must once again stare down a Thai monster, has to say: http://www.k-1fans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=48694

Full Muay Thai Rules (a Slamm 6 video)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1q9Xt863Vo

A small documentary featuring Ramon Dekkers and Ivan Hippolyte: 2 of the most prominent Dutch fighters. They discuss some of their history in the ring, and what it is to fight FULL Muaythai rules.

It's kinda cool to hear these legends pay they respects to traditional Muay Thai and hear what they have to say about the current state of stand up combat sports.

I think it's worth it to hear what anyone who has a deep history in the sport has to say, whether it's Ajahn Suchart, Kru Clifton, or legendary fighters like Ramon and Ivan.

Chok Dee to the Canadians!

Well, there's no time like the present. The last stretch of November does not only bring in a wave of huge international fights, but opportunities for Canada to represent our Muay Thai at the highest levels.

First, this Friday we want to send our positive vibes to Kru Clifton Brown for his WMC World title defense in Sweden:

More info: http://www.k-1.se/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=94&Itemid=40

Next, at the end of the month our friends from Siam no1 and Southside Muay Thai will be representing Team Canada at the IFMA world
championship tournament!

Mikey and X are already in Thailand as we speak and have their own blog up (with some videos of their training): http://www.southsidemuaythai.ca/ifma_videoblogs.html

Congratulations Again!

A congratulations to our Kru Jen and P.C. Lindor for completing Ajahn Suchart's next level of curriculum! Our two instructors are stepping it up, as this level has them studying deeper into the traditions of Muay Thai and exploring some of its more esoteric techniques.

It translates into us getting nothing but better instruction and a brighter future for spreading the traditions of Muay Thai.

Mini shoutouts go to our assistant instructors P.C. Nic and Brian for their ring performances on Saturday night. I couldn't be there but I heard it made for some must-watch videos

Bovy Sor Udomson vs Rudolph Durica @ Janus Fight Night, November 09 (video)

Watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQk_7JLNfhk

If you don't know who Bovy is, he's one of the most well known Thais and his been around for a while. He's best known for just walking forward and throwing, at the cost of absorbing some damage himself. He's so tough that he's usually successful at knocking his opponents out or at least pummeling them, however there are those like Anuwat who have knocked him out in turn.

Rudolph
is a well seasoned fighter himself, having fought Santichai and Andrei Kulebin multiple times in tournaments.

Female Muay Thai fight (Video)

*edit*
According to Kru J: "I believe that one of the girls is Daoprasuk Petchopas in that video. Undefeated in over 54 fights. Best fighter at my weight in the world. She is in the red"

Here are two strong female Thai's going at it. I don't know who they are unfortunately. Finally! A quality clip of female MT.

Marco Pique vs Malaipet in Las Vegas 2005 (Video)

I posted a fight between Marco and Yod yesterday, and I was talking about how Marco has faced a lot really well known guys early on in his pro career. Here's one of those fights against Malaipet in L.V Nevada, back in 2005.

Both these men are slated to compete in the Contender Asia Season 2 that is rumoured to start filming in the new year.

Thailand Vs Challengers Event: coming January 16/10

Thought I'd share this upcoming event with you which is part of the "Thailand Versus Series".

It's looking to be a huge promotion sanctioned by the WMC and promoted by Songchai Ratanasuban (If you don't know how big this guy is in Muaythai, look him up. He's like the Godfather of promoting).

Mr Songchai in the middle

The event has a kickass website here: http://www.thailandvs.com/ , complete with fighter profiles and video trailer.

On the 16th of January 2010, look for these fighters to be representing their respective teams.

Thailand/
- Kaoklai Kaengnorasing
- Nopparat Keatkamtorn
- Bovy Sor Udomsorn
- Nonsai Sanyakorn
- Tum Mardsue
- Zaza Sor Aree(muaying)

Challengers/
- Dzabhar Askerov
- Arslan AK-47
- Antuan Siangboxing
- Joe Bam Bam(muaying)
- TBA-Japan
- Ramazan Ramazanov

As you can see there are a lot of big names from both sides, and a female fight between Zaza and Joe Bam Bam. It would be a good idea to look up some of these fighters if you want to see some of the current talent in the sport.

Yodsanklai Fairtex vs Marco Pique at Janus Fight Night, Nov 7/09 (Video)

Watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jr-PFVxbjd0

I have to give Marco a lot of respect. He has stepped into the ring with the likes of Malaipet, Buakao, Nieky Holtzken and now Yod at a very young age. We should be seeing him again when the Contender Asia Season 2 starts.

Yod is...Yod.

Also on this card were Thai sluggers Bovy Sor Udomson and Saiyoknoi. I will post their fights if they get uploaded.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Erik, Niloo and Wegz for completing the Blue grading at Siam, showing a lot of heart, technique and physical conditioning. Another round of applause for Kru J's students from XC. Remember that this is only a stepping stone as the work rate and expectations are now much higher. Love, respect and believe.

I saw some of our guys digging deep and pushing through with everything they had...I want to see that and more from now on. Let's inspire each other.

Pictures to come...

The Gods of Muay Thai Part 2: Orono Por Muang Ubon

part 2 of Robert Clyne's series:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yisdOw31JfE

The video begins with Saenchai, but moves into a little profile of Orono (one of the greats from the past). Watch him spar and workout with the younger fighters. You also get a sneak peek at a young female fighter with tons of talent.

You'll see Orono teaching a class of kids, working out with some of the exercises we do in our class too

Enjoy!

The Gods Of Muay Thai Part 1: Sor. Kingstar Saenchai (Video)

A series by Robert Clyne called "The Gods of Muay Thai"

Robert profiles the top fighters at 13 coins gym. In this first part he gives us a look at Saenchai (YES, it's Saenchai all over again...just in case you weren't sick of seeing him lol).

I will post all the parts for your enjoyment as soon as they are uploaded.

Watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TO0R_Z1lN_c

If you are just joining MT and never heard of Saenchai...he's basically the pound for pound best fighter in the world right now, and incredibly unorthodox. All of his basic techniques are so refined that he pulls them off with ease, and has the skill to mix in his own bag of tricks.

Buakao vs Giorgio Petrosyan (Fight Video), WMC Title Fight in 2007

As you know, both Buakao (I tend to spell it that way instead of Buakaw, because a lot of people don't know how to pronounce his name) and Petrosyan were in the final 4 for K-1, but did not fight each other. Here's the fight between them about 3 years ago I believe. Full Muay Thai rules.

Thank You Kru Clifton!

York U Muay Thai would like to give a big thank you to Kru Clifton for taking time to share with us some of his vast knowledge, as well as answer a marathon of questions. We would love to have you back sometime. Khap khun khup!

If you missed it, make sure you don't miss the next time he comes around...it was a good 2 and a half hours jam packed with insight and knowledge.

We wish Kru Clifton the best of luck for his title defense against Rickard Nordstrand in November

A big thanks to Kru J for arranging this special class

Aaron vs the Heavy Bag video

A good video of bagwork and technique

Watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8e5feVrbs8&feature=player_profilepage

Don't ask me how I found this...I'll just tell you. It was in the related videos you often see at the sidebar when watching youtube clips. I did a search for Clifton Brown and was watching an interview when I saw this particular clip on the side bar. I know when Kru J sees this she will probably call me creepy, so once and for all I'm setting the story on how I found this straight lol.

For those of you who don't know, Aaron is a fighter from Siam no 1. I've never actually met him but he has trained with both Kru Jen and Poochoi Kru Nic. I've had the pleasure of seeing one of his fights and he is very skilled and technical.
